If you've already seen this repeatedly on your f-list today, you can probably move along. There's nothing to see here. Apart, that is, from me saying that I have a dark sense of humour at the best of times and there was scarcely a bit of this I didn't laugh at like a drain. I don't understand the bitching. Zach Quinto is not suggesting that violence against women is okay or in some way funny. It's a black comedy. I understand that's not everyone's cup of chai, but it doesn't mean that he's being in any way disrespectful. And those who believe people who think it's funny have been sucking down too much Kool Aid and blinded by the fact that ZOMG IT'S ZACHARY QUINTO!!!1!!1!11! need to chill the hell out, or realise that there's a wide range of people in the world and the self-righteous are just one group.

Of which I can probably now count myself as one...

And also, folks squicked by watching Zach kiss women require a check-up from the neck-up. Who cares if he's straight or gay? He's playing a part. If he is gay, about which there is no conclusive public evidence and no need for us as the viewing public to know about his personal life, then he is not somehow betraying his sexuality by taking a straight role, m'kay?

Okay, I'll try not to be furious...

(and I watched the movie - it's hilarious!)

But why are there people squicked by someone kissing a woman? I mean, seriously? RL orientation has nothing to do with it (and I bet these people are the type who squee over Velvet Goldmine, Brokeback Mountain and Torchwood/Doctor Who kisses with straight men as well), and we don't even know Zach's RL orientation (personally he strikes me as bi, rather like Ben Affleck always has, but that's just my personal opinion on it) and... I do not get it...

That was one of my first thoughts too. The comment came from someone that I've encountered in RPF fandom before and disagreed with openly but she didn't respond to me. Someone in pinto_fic, with all due respect to Zach's privacy, asked if there were any known reports of him having dated a woman. Amongst the other responses that said it had been rumoured that he'd dated Rumer Willis, Kristen Bell and others, said individual responded with "There has never been ever evidence that he has dated girls...these rumors come from the fangirls unable to accept Zach for who he is." Nope. Sorry. I had to respond to that one. I pointed out that I didn't think there was any actual evidence to suggest conclusively that he's straight, gay, bi or anything in between. Anyone who chooses to believe he's straight is no more deluded or wrong than someone who assumes he's gay based on the evidence available. Which, as far as I can tell, is zero. None of us really know who he is. Nor do we have any right to know. One person's assumption about the personal life of someone they don't know and have never met is just that. An assumption. It's not fact.

The thing about being squicked by seeing him kissing girls just takes it to another level of weird. I didn't comment on that because it is a matter of personal preference. It's one thing to challenge someone passing off opinion as fact, but it's not my place to tell people what they can or can't like, even if I find it peculiar. But in my view it is actually quite disparaging to Zach to say that. I'm not saying that I'll always like everything that he does as an actor or as a person, but to say that you get squicked because something he does in his life violates your personal fanon? That's just odd.

I never understood the point of caring who other people sleep with, unless you want to sleep with them yourself and have a reasonable chance of doing so. Whenever I think someone is hot, I am generally pleased to hear that they have a boyfriend or girlfriend. At least someone is getting in on that! High fives all round!

I completely agree. What someone gets up to in their own time, provided they're not hurting anyone [well, not without getting their consent first anyway...] is no-one else's business. And yes, I like to think that people I think are hot are getting some. It makes sense to me too.
