They've been showing episodes of Star Trek: The Next Generation on Virgin1 over here, and I've been rediscovering my love of all things TNG and, specifically, Captain Jean Luc Picard. I've had a crush on him since I was about 16 and Patrick Stewart was... well, let's just say he's older than my dad :D

The episode that was on last night was Pre-Emptive Strike and featured Ensign Ro [which made Mr G very happy indeed, I can tell you...] and Capt. JLP being a sexy bitch. No change there then. But I found myself making liberal "mmph" noises over him and Ro meeting in a bar under deep cover, displaying the outward signs of courtship [read: lust] whilst telling her so quietly that no-one else could hear that he was going to have her very sternly disciplined. Hear that sound? That's the sound of Patrick Stewart JUMPING UP AND DOWN ON MY KINK BUTTONS WITH HOBNAILED BOOTS ON!

I was feeling pretty washed out yesterday, so I took the best medicine I could find. I watched Zoolander. That film just makes me grin uncontrollably. How is Ben Stiller that awesome? And why is Owen Wilson attractive? I can't figure out what it is about him, but I so would. I mean, just look at them:

Awesome.

In other news, I'm off to a casting this evening for a film that's being shot nearby. It's just for a background role, and the casting will probably involve filling in a form and having a mugshot taken. However, if they decide to use me it will just involve being paid and fed for a day whilst doing something I would happily do for free. Bonus.

-----

And finally, I've discovered when I will be seeing Star Trek next. It's going to be... wait for it... at midnight on the 25th June, in my sleeping bag, under the stars, in a field at Glastonbury! I know it makes me one of the saddest human beings alive, but I'm currently more excited about that than seeing the bands or any of the other fun stuff there is to do over five whole days at the festival.

Fangeek out.

It's official. I suck at finding communities on LJ. So please, if you know of any good Trek fic communities [and not the kink meme, cos I'm already all over that bitch] then please feel free to tell me.

kthx

Title: Compromise
Pairing: Kirk/Spock
Fandom: Star Trek [I have the new film in mind, but I don't really think it matters]
Words: 100
Summary: Kirk likes to take risks
Writer's notes: This came about from a prompt by [livejournal.com profile] betweenthebliss, who suggested Kirk/Spock; Compromise. It's my first foray into Trek as a writer, so I hope it comes off okay. Comments and concrit would be very welcome indeed.

But these boys are just too adorable and quite frankly too plain sexy NOT to ship in an real life stylee.

There will be no references here to actual RPF. All references are insiiiiiide myyyyyy miiiiiiind. But watch Chris Pine here talking about how he has many mancrushes, plus the general way in which Zachary Quinto just can't stop gazing at Chris whilst he's talking, and you have the start of something that in my case at least will need some kind of water canon to put out.

And now I'm going to go out into the sunshine and try to stop the tidal wave of smutty ideas crashing over the shores of my mind...

Yes, I watched Trek again. Yes, it rocked hard second time around. I came out of the cinema grinning just as broadly as the first time. And now I'm more than a little obsessed. It anyone can rec any fics to me for the movie I'm open to offers. I'm currently fascinated by the thoughts of Jim/Bones: the Academy years and how Spock might cope with his first pon farr with only Kirk for "company". But like I say I'm keeping an open mind so feel free to tell me if you've seen something good.

I've also started watching another two shows - West Wing and How I Met Your Mother. West Wing is taking a while to grow on me. I've only seen four episodes so far and I'm feeling a bit special needs because it's pacey, full of jargon I don't understand and I'm struggling to keep up. It was recommended by a young work colleague who, having taken a sabbatical to the US during his degree and worked as a White House intern for four months is fanatical about the show and the biggest Obama fanboy you could ever meet. Seriously. He met Senator Obama for coffee with a couple of the other interns whilst he was there and has nothing but squee for the big man. So having been infected by his fanboyism for American politics I'm giving West Wing a decent go. In exchange, I've given him State of Play, and fully expect another convert. Mr G loves WW already, which is good. We don't have enough shows in common lately.

How I Met Your Mother, though? Oh man. HOW much do I love that show already? I've only seen 12 episodes so far but it is ledge-gen-dairy! [livejournal.com profile] silvaa pointed out tonight that it's a show where there are no characters you don't really like. In Will and Grace, I couldn't stand Will and Grace. Buffy was never my favourite character in Buffy. But I really like all the characters in HIMYM so far. But especially Barney. My NPH crush is back with a vengeance. But then I feel kinda justified, my first TV crush having been in Dougie Howser when I was about 12. And as a consequence I've been rewatching Dr Horrible too. In summary, NPH's awsomeness is helping me grin through RL bullshit right now. Yay!
