The Annual "Come As You're Not" Halloween party post

As some of you might already know, karaokegal has a Halloween party post over at her journal called "Come As You're Not". Basically, it's a fic fancy dress party, and by that I mean you are challenged to write something that you would never write in a million years. karaokegal explains it better than I could, so I'll copy and paste from her post:

karaokegal's Fourth Annual “Come As You’re Not” fanfic costume party.

Who is invited: YOU! If you're seeing this posted anywhere on your friends list, even if you've never heard of me, please come to the party anyway.

I’m inviting you all to write a fanfic as someone other than yourselves.

Costume examples:

If you’re known for linear narrative, go poetic and out of sequence.

Are you a fluff-bunny? Write angst. (And if you're known for developing hives at the hint of fluff, take a few Benedryl and write some.)

Have you said you can’t/won’t do smut? Go down and dirty.

Smutstress extra-ordinaire? Do something so gen a five-year-old can read it.

Write for a pairing you don’t believe in, preferably one that violates your OTP. (Or write threesome fic for your OTP and the biggest threat to their relationship.)

Cross-dressing: Do a story for a fandom you’ve never written in. Think of all the great fandoms that have cropped up since last year...this isn't JUST a House-party or a Torchwood party. Any fandom (movie, tv show, play, book, literature) is welcome.

Bi-fictionality is HIGHLY encouraged. If you've never written slash-now's the time. If you're a true-blue slash fan and totally squicked out by the idea of HET---GO FOR IT!

In fact, this may be the perfect time to face your worse squicks-Bring on the age-discrepancy, hetero, wing-fic! Incest? Rimming? Contact lens sharing? Bring it on!

Write in a style you claim to despise. Songfics, deathfics, AU are all welcome as long as it’s something that you would never be caught dead doing in a million, billion, years.

Base a fic on a cliché you’ve been railing against.

Write a purposely sucky story and create your own MST for it. Or pair up with someone and get them to do the MST for you.

RPS/RPF are more than acceptable, if it's a pairing you haven't done before and especially if you've gone on record saying that RPS/RPF is nasty, bad, icky, squicky etc.

For added costume appeal-create a userpic that is totally NOT YOU!

No word restrictions. Elaborate costumes (long fics), masks thrown over the face (drabbles), and anything in between are fine.

Check out the parties from 2006 and 2007 and 2008 for examples. (And remember it's never too late to comment on a fic.)

RSVP is nice, but not necessary. You can tell us your costume in advance or surprise us at the party.

About two weeks before, I'll be loading up the truck and going shopping so think about what libations, yummies and recreational drugs you'd like me to procure.

Once again, the party will last a whole week so you needn't feel rushed to post and read everything in 24 hours.

I’ll open the post as soon as it turns October 31st my time, which means the UK can start partying bright and early. Post the story in your own LJ and put the link in a comment.

I already have my fic idea germinating, and it features writing my first piece in a fandom I've not yet written for and tackling one of my massivest, squickiest fictional and real-life squicks head-on.

Well, the offer's there and it's two months off yet so plenty of time to ponder. I wrote het last year - a Doctor/Rose fic because that pairing really Pushes my buttons on the irritibility front. Dunno why. Maybe just cos Rose is so clingy.

I like the icon. terraswrath says "you can't spell subtext without buttsex". Makes me giggle, every time.

I was thinking about re-posting this too. It's a really interesting idea. I don't know if I'll do it because I have a lot of other things I want to do first, but it certainly got my brain working, wondering what an appropriate topic would be for me. Yeah, het was probably one of the first things to come to mind, LOL. OK, something just popped in my head (from TW, natch) that I usually avoid even reading, so...

My "costume" this year is going to be a particular challenge if I follow through on it. I want to pop my cherry in a fandom I've never written in before with characters whose voices I think I'll struggle with for a pairing I can't find a single other fic about featuring something that makes me feel extremely uncomfortable. Nothing luke a challenge, eh?

My last icon was a clue, but if you don't watch the show it might be a bit lost on you.

I went last year dressed in an angsty het Doctor/Rose gen costume. I don't really write het, or gen, and it's a pairing I can't abide. I think it's just so, I dunno, overexposed? The fact that RTD keeps bringing her back all the time? Or maybe it's that she's so damned clingy? But still, I wrote a short piece for them. If you wanted to read it, it's the only entry I have under the tag for Rose Tyler for the reasons set out above...

Oh jeez, you said that in the prior comment, which I actually read. Brainfail. Hmmm, serial killer makes me think Dexter. (obvsly I don't expect an answer!) Yeah, I don't have any interest in any Dr/Rose. But I might read yours out of curiosity.

Not Dexter, but I've not written in that fandom before now either. But no. He's an actual, self-confessed serial killer. This one is technically a serial killer.

If you choose to read the fic, it is very short and steers well clear of twoo wuv. But s'up to you. I wouldn't seek it out either!

YAY PIMPAGE! I'm getting so psyched for this year's party. Halloween is a Saturday, so I can stay home most of the day reading the costumes and then go out to the Mint to be in my "real life" costume. (Which reminds me...I need to shop for boots this weekend.)

I don't think I've got an actual party to go to this year. However, I have started work on my costume for your party. And I've thrown in a little additional challenge. It's now a story for a fandom I've never written in, for a pair that I've never seen any fic for [even though I've been looking], tackling one of my biggest RL and fictional squicks. It's gonna be a challenge. And also, unlikely to net me any comments. Damn me and my love of rare pairs!

I may need your help with the final touches too. It's a fandom you know.

Follow your bliss, honey. If nothing else you will get goodies from your fellow party-goers. If it's Heroes, there's also a rare_heroes community, as well as mature_heroes for anything that's nice and smutty.
