It's not the fact that J/I is canon that bothers me so much as a) it seems obvious to me that that Jack would never settle down with Ianto as RTD apparently wants is to believe and b) the rabidly OOC fic that has all but spoiled the fandom for me. I just keep thinking back to Tiemagent!Jack in 'The Empty Child'. The man's a bastard!! A loveable rogue! He's not the kind for hearts and flowers (or cushions and curtains). That doesn't mean he doesn't feel and care very deeply. Just, well, not in the fluffy twoo wuv way suggested by some.
