Happy, positive thoughts to keep me warm

filthgoblinImma get this out of the way up front. Living in a house with broken central heating when it's -6oc outside sucks great big donkey balls. I've been in the house for an hour and a half and I still haven't taken my coat off, even while I'm sitting here waiting for my dinner to be cool enough to eat. I can see big steaming clouds of my own condensed breath every time I breathe out and I can't feel my index fingers on either hand.
Still, I'm not gonna let it get me down, so to cheer me up I've decided to share the love and kinda invent my own meme. I'm sure someone's done it before, probably better, but hey. The sentiment is there.
Comment me with "DO ME!" and I'll respond with three things that I like about you. You are great and I would like you to know exactly why I think that.
And if it is of any interest to you at all, after the quantum leap there are pics of my cousin's new American Bull Terrier pup, Rosie, who is eight weeks old and possibly the most adorable thing ever invented.

Date: 2009-12-23 03:51 pm (UTC)Right, on to the business of the day. I'll tell you right now that I had a hard time narrowing it down to just three things. You have lots of awesome attributes, but let's focus here.
First, I would pick your honesty. You are totally in touch with how you feel and even if sometimes that might be ugly you don't feel bad about telling it how it is. That said, I also know you would never be intentionally hurtful, and that combination makes me respect you enormously and take everything you say seriously and give it due regard.
Then I would have to say how fiercely passionate you are. You are never backwards when it comes to pinning your colours to the mast. You love Nick. You love Peter. You are passionate about your friends and throw yourself into your family life and your friendships at full-pelt. You obsess with the best of them about fannish things, and I find it reassuring that there are other people out there like me who are my age and still give their interests their all.
Finally, I decided to focus on something that I'm probably not best placed to judge having never laid
handseyes on you in the flesh, but having said that I have seen a fair few pictures of you. You, my darling, have the most beautiful eyes. In some lights they are as dark as a Hershey's wrapper; in others, I think I can see sparks of gold in them. And they always seem to twinkle with the mischief I always associate with you :)no subject

Date: 2009-12-23 04:13 pm (UTC)Okay. Three great things about you. First up, you're unyielding. You fight the fights you feel are the right ones and are unswerving in your dedication. I respect and admire that enormously, and couldn't even hope to match up to your doggedness in fighting your corner.
I know this isn't specifically about you, but I really admire the relationship you have with your hubby. You don't claim it's all sweetness and light, romance and candlelit rendezvous but you are clearly devoted to each other and work hard at your relationship. I like to think that Mr G and I are cast in the same mould and take great pleasure from seeing your upswings after you've come through something by supporting each other.
Finally, I love you for your attention to detail. In writing your own work, the attention you pay to the smaller things is what brings your stories to life. In the beta that you've done for me, your pedantic eye has taken my own writing to a whole new level and I'm exceptionally grateful for it.

That said, I also like the fact you seem to have opinions even if you have no real rational basis for them and are happy just to say "this is what I think and I'm cool with that". I know we have chatted before about squicks and taboos and even if you can't fully justify why you think something you don't go to half the lengths I do to beat myself up over that!
Lastly, I love your style of writing. Your descriptions are so engaging and the scenarios you choose so real. You've managed to hook me in and broaden my horizons to more than one pairing I wouldn't have previously considered because I love to read anything you write, and your dedication to obscure pairings is similar to my own :D

I love how positive you are. Don't get me wrong, you're not always swinging from the chandeliers, but you always seem to have an affirmative aspect on life. Things may get on top of you like they do for all of us, but even from the bottom of the pile I can always sense an inkling of your belief in it all being temporary and things being better. It's a great quality.
Next, I want to pay homage to your out-and-out geekgirliness. It's fantastic that you get giggly over the same kind of nerdy stuff that I do, and in some ways you're even more hardcore than me! It's an endearing quality and one that makes me feel like I've probably got loads more in common with you than I even know.
And last but not least, I love your sense of humour. Your conversation with your brain you posted recently nearly killed me with LOL and you have a rare ability to turn adversity into something that can make you [and others] laugh. Some time in the future, I think you and I are due some time to make each other giggle. I have a feeling we would be very successful at it :D
And this isn't a real one, just maybe a quarter of a one because it's not about you personally, but I LOVE all of your icons. All of them. You have such great icon taste :D

You are such a generous person. I don't mean you go around handing stuff out. You're a generous spirit, and you give of yourself so plentifully. There are times when I've been at a low and you've been prepared to give me anything you had if it would help. I will never forget that.
If there is something good to be said, you say it. I never doubt any positive comments or praise that you offer, but you are good at honing in on something that will accentuate the positive. I have a hard time accepting compliments, you know that, but I can take them better from you for some reason.
And last but not least, cuddles with you are some of the most comforting, life-affirming things in the world :)

I know when we met up in Cardiff earlier this year, I could barely tear myself away at the end of the night. You're great company, and really good fun to be around :D
And finally, you carefully consider and measure up what the best options are for you. Lots of people in your position would have plumped for the easiest option to follow the crowd and just head straight to uni with the pack. But you thought it through, considered your options and came to a reasoned and mature decision. I really respect that about you.

You seem surprised that your grades are so good, but aside from the fact you are fiercely intelligent, you work harder than anyone else I know to be the best you can be. I can't tell you how much I admire that.
You are the perfect combination of mature and immature. Whoever said that wisdom comes with age was dead wrong and I could give a list as long as a country mile of the times and the subjects on on which you've given me wise counsel. That said, you're far from a 100% serious smart-arse and your ability to giggle at the innuendo in ANYTHING never ceases to make me smile.
The last thing (though trust me, I could go on all day) is how open you are. You give of yourself so freely it's amazing you have anything left for yourself. I am very thankful of the indulgence you give me and it makes me feel very special to know you. No, not that kind of special! I was special needs before I even met you :p

So consider yourself invited and very welcome to rummage around in my personal business. I just hope it doesn't bore you to tears!
Right. On to you. First up, I think you are an incredibly genuine person. When I first met you I was terrified of you and up until the opening night of GS I was convinced you hated me. However, having taken the time to get to know you, I realise that unlike a lot of people I've come across through that acting lark, you just don't pile on the superficial friendliness that others also seem to find it so easy to turn off again. There's very few people I've met through the theatre that I can actually call a friend. I'm pleased that you are one of them.
Second order of business. You are very talented. I got such a buzz playing off you in GS once we got going and I really wish we'd had longer because I think we could've taken things much further with the trust we developed. As a writer you also have an incredible feel for natural dialogue. In that script I could tell you the bits that were penned by you and those written by your co-writer because yours tripped off the tongue and the others felt awkward in my mouth. I recognised it even more keenly after WS. I know you couldn't come see that, but having been involved in it before I'm sure you know what I mean. I'm not trying to do anyone else down, but the actor, the reader, the viewer and the writer in me (it's getting quite crowded in here. Can someone open a window?) all really prize realistic dialogue over everything. And you has it. I think that's what I'm trying to say.
Finally - although I probably could go on - is the fact we keep discovering things we have in common. When we first met it didn't even occur to me that you might have a life outside Chapter's rehearsal space, let alone that we'd have such similar views. And I've never met a male slash fan! Well, not to the best of my knowledge anyway... I got a glimmer from rehearsing the "all that is, all that was, all that ever could be..!" bit, but who knew how widely it would range?
So yeah. I like lots about you. Dare you to comment me again & I'll come up with more :p

I'll talk about three things that's wrong with me. It will balance things out. Maybe it's just my modesty. And let's face it, there really isn't anyone else in the world as modest as I am. LOLZ.

Date: 2010-01-08 08:58 pm (UTC)And in choosing three other things, I would say that I love the fact you have half a conversation inside your head then bring people in at the end, then struggle to bring them up to speed with what they've missed and get tongue-tied in the process. It's adorable, even if you find it frustrating.
I also very much enjoy your obsessional tendencies, which are encouraging to me because it's good to meet someone who is as absorbed in detail and likely to get immersed as I am.
I am also rapidly coming to understand that you are actually quite filthy. This is a quality I very much seek out in a friend. I am hoping that you still have hidden depths I have yet to plumb :D
