Right, second batch of drabbles from the recent prompt request I put out. This time they are all RPF. You know what that means, kids, but I'm gonna spell it out one more time. That means these drabbles are about REAL PEOPLE. If that's your squick, do not click. I am very happy to receive constructive criticism on my writing, but don't bitch about the subject matter. We clear? Good! :)

Pairing: John Barrowman/Catherine Tate
Rating: G
Prompt: the inspiration for this one was "first times", offered by [livejournal.com profile] 51stcenturyfox.

“So, what was your first like, then?” Catherine asked, whispering in the low light behind the soundstage.

John smiled wistfully. “Well, she…” “She?!” “Yes, she!” he countered playfully. “I’ve not always been this open, you know! She was a little older than me. Brash, loud, so funny. Gorgeous figure.” John’s eyes wandered from where Catherine was holding a steaming paper cup at her waist, over the swell of her breasts to meet her quizzical gaze. “Not unlike you, actually.”

“Gerroff!” Catherine snorted derisively. “You? Fancy someone like me?”

John smiled. “Just ‘cause I’m not buying doesn’t mean I can’t look”.

Pairing: John Barrowman/David Tennant
Rating: PG
Prompt: [livejournal.com profile] cruentum requested this pairing, with the [extremely challenging!] prompt of "bananas"

“Ah, c’mon David…”

Although he shifted uncomfortably, John could see he was considering it. “You’ll be helping with character development,” John continued. “We know Jack has a thing for the Doctor: it’d help if Jack knew what he’d be getting.”

Still David looked unsure, but John was undeterred. “It’s just a bit of fun” he continued.

As David began to protest, John lunged forward. His lips pressed against David’s, taking full advantage of the element of surprise to sweep his tongue into David’s mouth.

Pulling back with a grin, John took in David’s shocked expression. “You…” he gasped “are bananas!”

Pairing: John Barrowman/Catherine Tate
Rating: G
Prompt: [livejournal.com profile] karaokegal requested this one, with the prompt "Stay [just a little bit longer]". She was worried that she's going to hell for shipping Barrowman and Tate. Well it seems that we'll be getting three one way tickets to special hell - one each for her, me and [livejournal.com profile] 51stcenturyfox:p

A tiny thrill of panic tickled in his gut as John registered that Catherine was trying to go. Her confidence and wit had him captivated; but he could see that under all that front – and boy, what a front – there was something more fragile, and that intrigued him. In some ways she was so like him. In others, she couldn’t be more different.

Pulling out every trick he kept up his sleeve to provoke that filthy laugh of hers, he tried to hold her interest and stop her leaving. He wasn’t sure why, he just didn’t want it to end.

These are all wonderful and I'm very very happy with mine. We've all got barstools in hell coming. (Check out my LJ for a spiffy idea about that.)

Thank you for the kind comment. I seem to have hit a bit of a comment drought at the moment, so yours is even more welcome than usual!

I watched the vid. Made me giggle, it did. Though I'm still not sure I'm going to hell for RPS. They aren't real people for me because I don't actually know them. They're just characters like any other, and the inclusion of life details and significant others is just as important in RPF as it is in making sure any other fanfic is believable.

That's my stance, and I'm sticking to it!

The people who love my RPS/RPF love the details, family members, sig oths etc. And then there's the famous wank where I was called a "sociopath."

If I'm going to hell for any part of the RPF, it MIGHT be writing John/Eve or Rachel Maddow/Keith Olbermann (although in my fic is was a near miss.) For some reason there's a double standard. It's fine to write "canon" straight men as having a gay relationship, but some people will get their knickers in the proverbial twist over having a gay man or woman in a hetero scene.

"Pot, I have a Mr. Kettle for you. Line one."

I think anyone who's reading fanfiction period is going to need to take a long, hard look at themselves before judging others. There's some fantastic writing out there, but I don't think I would call it high art to borrow someone else's characters and write about them fucking. Maybe I'm a terrible snob. I'm not saying I don't enjoy it, because I clearly do, and I strive to be good at everything I do, including writing, and that means getting the context right as much as the grammar and the style.

And as I said in my original comment, as far as I'm concerned, RPF is fanfic like any other for me and the people in them can't be "real" for me because I don't know them [writing fiction slashing two actual friends might be an issue. Even though the thoughts might have crossed my mind on occasion, I wouldn't ever commit them to page!] and what I'm attempting to portray is the same "character" that they use when in the public eye. That's why RPF isn't wrong for me. It's not like I'm actually going to stalk down John Simm and see how he really does act with his kids to use that as context for his angst in the run up to doing David Tennant over a dining chair. It's fantasy put into words. Nothing more than that. If you don't like, don't read.

True!

I love her top half. Well, she's all awesome, but you know. :)

I do. And she is. I have to confess I was quite pleased recently when someone said my hair is very Catherine Tate. I have no problem being compared with her =D
