Viewing: past and future.
Sep. 10th, 2009 01:21 pmI've seen a lot of movies this month, what with having gotten my cinema Unlimited card and all, so after my trip to see District 9 last night [which is superb, by the way], I thought it was time for an aide memoire for me and a ten word review of each one.
District 9 - Intelligent sci-fi at its best. Apartheid metaphor somewhat tired.
The Final Destination 3D - Predictable plot, fantastic romp. Cartoonish violence and gore was fun!
The Hurt Locker - Pedestrian, overrated. Poor characterisation. Couldn't have cared less about them.
Inglourious Basterds - Tarantino at his best. Tongue in cheek. Delightfully over the top.
Orphan - Watch these kids' careers. Stellar performances. Very tense.
A Perfect Getaway - Started slow, got much better. Learn to trust your instincts.
The Proposal - Sandra Bullock's great. Likeable froth. Don't get Ryan Reynolds' appeal.
The Ugly Truth - Made me laugh harder than expected. Proper predictable cheesy romcom.
In my future, I see trips to watch the following movies:
Dorian Grey
Toy Story 3D, on limited release
Gamer
Law Abiding Citizen - yes, I do seem to be on a Gerard Butler tip. No, I'm not doing it deliberately.
Mesrine pt. 1 & 2
Zombieland
There are probably others that I can't think of right now.
Also, is anyone else as unfeasibly excited as I am about Flash Forward coming on TV? I squeaked very loudly when I noticed John Cho in the very slick, very movie-style full-length trailer they've been showing on Channel 5.
