Viewing: past and future.

I've seen a lot of movies this month, what with having gotten my cinema Unlimited card and all, so after my trip to see District 9 last night [which is superb, by the way], I thought it was time for an aide memoire for me and a ten word review of each one.
District 9 - Intelligent sci-fi at its best. Apartheid metaphor somewhat tired.
The Final Destination 3D - Predictable plot, fantastic romp. Cartoonish violence and gore was fun!
The Hurt Locker - Pedestrian, overrated. Poor characterisation. Couldn't have cared less about them.
Inglourious Basterds - Tarantino at his best. Tongue in cheek. Delightfully over the top.
Orphan - Watch these kids' careers. Stellar performances. Very tense.
A Perfect Getaway - Started slow, got much better. Learn to trust your instincts.
The Proposal - Sandra Bullock's great. Likeable froth. Don't get Ryan Reynolds' appeal.
The Ugly Truth - Made me laugh harder than expected. Proper predictable cheesy romcom.
In my future, I see trips to watch the following movies:
Dorian Grey
Toy Story 3D, on limited release
Gamer
Law Abiding Citizen - yes, I do seem to be on a Gerard Butler tip. No, I'm not doing it deliberately.
Mesrine pt. 1 & 2
Zombieland
There are probably others that I can't think of right now.
Also, is anyone else as unfeasibly excited as I am about Flash Forward coming on TV? I squeaked very loudly when I noticed John Cho in the very slick, very movie-style full-length trailer they've been showing on Channel 5.

Also could I suggest Surrogates with Bruce Willis? I've seen cinema trailers for that and it looks gooooood. I do not give a single shit about Avatar but I would totally go and see Surrogates.
What is this Flash Forward thing?? I can has linkage??

Date: 2009-09-10 02:51 pm (UTC)I'm not sure about Surrogates. It does look kinda interesting, but the trailer didn't grip me all that hard. I might go see it, though. It's the kind of boy-friendly film I might be able to lure Mr G,
As for Flash Forward, have a looky at this.
I've not been so excited about something coming on TV since the first season of Heroes or possibly Dexter, and Mr G is similarly excited. That makes it even greater, because it's been ages since we've shared a televisual obsession...

Date: 2009-09-11 10:39 am (UTC)I'm so glad someone else thought that. I got goosebumps watching it. Mr G thought it was a good effect, but I totally saw it as the ghost of Shosanna watching the destruction. I thought it was wonderful use of symbology.
Final Destination 3D was my first ever 3D movie. I'm totally sold on it. Even though I kept going cross-eyed!

Date: 2009-09-11 09:25 pm (UTC)Oh, so you missed My Bloody Valentine 3D? That was my first one. Both movies were a blast, really. They were the kind of horror movie I like - old-school fun slasher flicks.

Date: 2009-09-12 09:44 pm (UTC)I've been getting more into horror movies lately. I've watched quite a few Japanese ones, most recent being One Missed Call. Apparently the US remake sucked most exceedingly, but the original was very good.

Date: 2009-09-10 07:54 pm (UTC)Toy Story 3 is so in my future, and it would be even without Peter, though the first two are on his list of all time faves and my goodness I have seen them each about three hundred times by now. I love the plot line of a toy recall, LOL!
I am pretty excited about Dorian Grey, Sherlock Holmes, Shutter Island, Jennifer's Body, Wolfman, Where the Wild Things Are, Nine, Avatar...

Date: 2009-09-11 10:43 am (UTC)I don't know how I forgot to mention Where The Wild Things Are, but I watched that trailer and it left me with a big goofy grin on my face and a tear in the corner of my eye. I'm quite keen on Sherlock Holmes too, especially since I hear it's been given a thorough workover to bring the subtext right to the surface. That, plus the fact I think RDJ is legendary.
Not so bothered about Avatar, although I saw the trailer in 3D when we went to see Final Destination and the effects are pretty good. Not heard of any of the others, so I'll look them up.

Definitely going to see Dorien Grey, though. It looks beautiful, and I'm actually surprised no-one made it into a movie before.
