I have a number of fannish interests I haven't addressed of late, so I think it's about time I set that right. There will be more to come, as the new season of Dexter airs very very soon and the UK air date for Flash Forward is this week, I think. But in the meantime, I have seen the first episode of the new season of Heroes [cut for spoilers] and been spending more time than is in any way healthy watching True Blood, which I have NO idea how I didn't watch before now given its subject matter and my predeliction for all things vampiric.

Cut for massive amounts of spoilers, and in the case of True Blood, a sizeable picspam.

I watched the season opener for Heroes in three parts due to time constraints and not being able to wait, damnit, so I plan to go back and watch it all through once I have the chance. But from first viewing I totally agree with[livejournal.com profile] karaokegal in her view that it's practically impossible not to ship any two characters who have more than two seconds of screen time together. This season brought to my attention that had previously gone unnoticed: Peter/Noah; Nathan/Angela [yes, I know]; Matt/Sylar; and I'm not even going to tell you what went through my mind in terms of a scenario between Matt, the Water Guy and Sylar when Matt was planting intentions in the Water Guy's head...

I'm pleased they made the Sylar in Matt's head smiley instead of glowering angry. We have enough of that when he's in his own body. But I get the feeling that Sylar is having lots of fun fucking with Matt, that Zach had lots of fun playing with Grunny and indulging my Quintobsession for just a second, watching that smile makes me quite girlish. I can't decide if I liked better the interrogation scene or the support group scene for Sylar playing the grinning tormentor. Love it, and I'm looking forward to seeing how it develops.

Gretchen. DO NOT WANT. That is all.

The Carnies. Hmmm. I'm not sure I get where that's going. I hope it becomes clear soon because the air of mystery surrounding them feels really forced and it's currently annoying me more than it intrugues me.

But I think my biggest disappointment of the show was that Danko is gone. I actually screamed "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" at my screen when the Carnie guy cut him to ribbons. I loved his character, his chemistry with Noah was still there in the little bit they had together in this episode and I was so hoping for a reunion between him and Sylar. But that's probably for my own selfish purposes rather than anything to do with the storyline.

So, moving on to True Blood. Part of the reason I've not had chance to watch Heroes straight through is because I'm completely hooked on True Blood, and so is Mr G. It's been so long since we've shared a mutual obsession for a TV show, and it's great to indulge it when there's a full 24 hours of episodes to get through.

The story, acting, dialogue, are all amazing. I don't think there's a character I dislike in a "STFU and GTFO" sense. Of course, there are "boo hiss!" characters, but in a show that focuses on good and evil, that's a good thing and not a bad one. One of my first thoughts was that this was everything that Twilight should have been. Instead of a Mary-Sue fantasy turned epic fail, Sookie is badass and takes no shit from anyone. Bill still has the same tendencies towards obsessional stalking that your Edward Cullen has, but Sookie has no qualms about telling him he's being creepy or overbearing and I like that.

As with most shows I watch, though, The two supposed main characters are never my favourite. I don't know if it's because I was born contrary but Buffy was bever about Buffy for me. I almost always end up fixated on what people might call the more peripheral characters, and this is no exception. Leaving aside the fact that just about every character is probably my favourite when they're on-screen ["aw, Terry Belfleur, he's so sweet! Go on, Andy! Break up the unholy fuckfest and save Sam! Oh, and Sam! Poor Sam! It's about time he got a break, love him. Go Tara! Tara's amazing, I wish I could be more like her..." and on, and on, and on] I think my absolute favourite character is LaFayette. There isn't a second he's on the screen when I don't love him. He's just perfect. When they saw the red toenails peeping out of Andy's car door at the start of Season 2, I almost screamed in panic that they'd done away with him, and I was almost disappointed when Eric and Pam didn't turn him because he would make SUCH an awesome, snarking sexy cage dancer!

Probably a close second place is Jason, though. God love that boy, he's as dumb as a box of hair and he makes me laugh times when I really shouldn't. The bits between him and Sarah in the Fellowship of the Sun church where she was seducing him, he just made me laugh and melt at the same time with the guileless look on his face and the fact he will believe just about anything that anyone tells him. I don't find him physically attractive. He makes me want to mother him!

My main obsession in season 2 was with Godric. Oh dear lord, he was just... guh. I have a serious thing for actors playing older than their age [think Aidan Turner playing Mitchell in Being Human holding Josie, who looked much older but was meant to have less years of life experience] and Allan Hyde is 20 and playing a character who's over 2,000 years old. And he does it so perfectly, with restraint and wisdom. He's a beautiful guy anyway, his poise and self-control are just hypnotic.

Godric/Eric - I thought up until ep 7 of season 2 that this was going to be my first ship-free series since Dexter. Then along comes Godric. Or more precisely, Eric's reverent way of talking about Godric when he was missing. Then when they met and Eric prostrated himself before Godric? And ordering him rare blood-type humans to feed on? And then the last episode that Godric was in made me lustful and almost cry my heart out at the same time.

I love this pic/cap. The contrast, the imagery. It's just beautiful

I mean, seriously just... just guh. There is a rumour they may find a way to bring him back in season three. I have my fingers very, very firmly crossed.
